2006 Rankings:

For Championship Tournament:

1.  UF

2.  UGA

3.  UCF

4.  UT

5.  UM

6.  FSU

**Please find an explanation below of the final rankings (numerically):

Based on the criteria on the SWLL website for rankings [1. Win/loss record; 2. Head-to-head; and 3. Goals against average (GAA) if no head-to-head matchup result is available] and using a multiplier for the fraction of games played in a season because UM and UT were unable to make up one game each, here is my explanation of the rankings:

1. UF - 8-0 record (100% winning percentage) with lower GAA than Georgia (also beat UGA in a head-to-head match but that was non-SWLL and shouldn't be used for rankings so GAA was used)

2. UGA - 8-0 (100%) - higher GAA than UF

3. UCF - 6-2 (75%) - lower GAA than UT (also beat UT in head-to-head but also a non-conference competition)

4. UT - 6-1 (85.7% *7/8 (multiplier for only playing 7 out of 8 games) = 75%) but higher GAA than UCF

5. UM - 5-2 (71.4% *7/8 = 62.5%) and they beat FSU head-to-head

6. FSU - 5-3 (62.5%) lost to UM head-to-head

How rankings are determined:
Team standings are determined by win/loss record. If teams are tied, their head-to-head results are used to determine who has the higher standing. If it cannot be determined after considering head-to-head results (a three way tie, for example), then goals allowed/game is used.

Because Goals Allowed/Game is used rather than Goals Scored/Game, it is to NO ADVANTAGE whatsoever for a team to "run up" a score on a weaker team. The only advantage in SWLL standings is gained by playing strong defense.

If standings cannot be determined by goals against, and the determination of standings affects who will be invited to the SWLL Championship, then a playoff game/games will be scheduled between tied teams. If this playoff game cannot be reasonably played, then the executive committee will determine standings and invitees to the SWLL Championship.
