Rena Whitehouse was honored for her overall contribution to women's
lacrosse in the Southeast, including her role in founding of the Atlanta
Women's Lacrosse Club and the SWLL.
The biggest award the SWLL gives is the SWLL Sportsmanship Award. Any
person (athlete, coach, umpire, or administrator) or team in the SWLL is
eligible. While the SWLL seeks to create the best possible competitive experience
for clubs, it has the higher goal of building women's lacrosse in the
Deep South. For the SWLL Sportsmanship Award, nominees are those
individuals or teams who have stepped beyond the usual boundaries to add
a certain grace and giving spirit that sets the tone for this region.
The 1999 SWLL Sportsmanship Award went to Katie Sweeney from Clemson. In
addition to her excellent play in Clemson's midfield, Katie plays with an
attitude for which the SWLL hopes all players strive. Beyond her
athletic accomplishments, Katie has given to lacrosse as one of the
top college-age officials in our region.
